How to play
Listen to the letter sound by clicking the listen button. Then click the letter you think is correct. If you guess wrong, you will hear how the incorrect letter sounds, so you can learn the difference.
Each level consists of up to 10 questions. You can play with uppercase letters, lowercase letters, or a mix of both!
For teachers and educators
Pedagogical progression: The game is structured around phonics principles to support early reading acquisition. We introduce continuants (sounds that can be sustained, e.g. S, M, L) before plosives (short sounds, e.g. B, P, K), as these are easier for children to identify and blend.
Focus areas:
Grapheme–phoneme correspondence (the letter's appearance vs. its sound).
Phonological awareness through distinguishing minimal pairs (e.g. B/P and D/T).
Automatisation of both uppercase and lowercase letters.
The game works excellently as a complement to early reading instruction in pre-school class and Year 1, or as extra support for students who need to build their decoding skills.
Calculation of knowledge points
Each completed game level in Letter Sounds gives 1 knowledge points. You can collect a maximum of 27 knowledge points by completing all 27 levels.
In the game Letter Sounds, you can earn a total of 81 medals. Medals are awarded based on how many times you have completed a level:
Bronze medal: after completing 2 rounds.
Silver medal: after completing 5 rounds.
Gold medal: after completing 10 rounds.
Knowledge points are only awarded for levels you have not completed before, meaning those that do not yet have checked green circles. Even after completing a level and earning both knowledge points and medals, you can continue practicing it. However, this will not grant any additional knowledge points or medals.
