Safer handling of student passwords

We have changed how student passwords are handled. The goal is to protect students as well as possible, even in the event of a future security breach. Here is what’s new for you as a teacher.

Passwords are shown only once

Student passwords can no longer be viewed afterwards, either by teachers or by us at Helpful Games. You see a password once, when you create a student account or give a student a new password. Give the student the login details right away, or print a login card.

Login cards and Excel lists create new passwords

When you print login cards or download an Excel list, the selected students get new passwords. By default, only students who have not yet logged in are selected, so students who already use their accounts are not affected. If you have already handed out cards to students who have not logged in yet, those cards will stop working if you print new ones.

Has a student forgotten their password?

Go to the student page and click New password. You can let Helpful Games create a password or enter one yourself.

Creating a whole class

After you import students from Excel, the group page shows how many of them have not yet received their login details. From there you can print login cards or download an Excel list directly.

Tip: Students who log in with Google or Microsoft don’t need a password at all.

For schools with a data processing agreement

This change strengthens the protection of students’ personal data. It does not change which personal data is processed or for what purposes. All current data processing agreements remain in force, and no new agreement needs to be signed.
