Instructions for Infection & response

Assessment and Qualifications Alliance Combined Science (Trilogy) Infection & Response

Pathogens are disease-causing fungi, viruses, bacteria or protists, that can infect both animals and plants. We humans have an immune system, which can protect us from pathogens.

Level 1: Communicable diseases
Level 2: Non-specific response
Level 3: Specific response
Level 4: Antibody response

1. Communicable Diseases (Guess the word)

Guess wordGuess word - The level consists of 8 words, but a maximum of 1 word are practiced per game round. The student has to find the word or sentence by guessing letters from the alphabet. If the suggested letter is in the word, it is filled in at the correct positions in the letter slots. If the letter is not in the word, a balloon pops. If the player can guess the correct letters and find the word before all 5 balloons run out, the round is won. For each word there is a clue to help the player guess the word. There is no time limit. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button labeled Cancel - then the correct word will be displayed - and try to complete the level again.

2. Non-specific immune system (Fill in the gaps)

Cloze testCloze test - The level consists of 1 cloze text. In the game, the student is presented with 1 question texts where certain parts (words or numbers) are hidden. These words or numbers have been replaced by fields where the student must either fill in the correct word, or select the correct word from a list. Sometimes, there's a question mark ? after the blank - if the player clicks on it a hint will be shown. A cloze text usually requires the reader to understand the context of the text in order to fill in the blank with the correct word. It may therefore be necessary to read the text several times. The student has 3 hearts (tries) for each fill-in-the-blank. The student has 3 hearts, giving them another chance at missed cloze texts during a game round. The colze texts have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has filled in all the blanks correctly, the game round is complete. If any blank is too difficult, the student can click the Cancel button - this shows all the correct answers to the gaps - and the player can try to complete the cloze text again.

3. Specific immune response (Choose the correct answer)

Multiple choiceMultiple choice - The level consists of 9 multiple choice questions and all of them are practiced in every game round. For each question, the player is given three possible answers, only one of which is correct. It is up to the player to choose the correct option. The student has 3 hearts, giving them another chance at missed multiple choice questions during a game round. Questions have text-to-speech in English. Answers have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has selected all the correct answers, the game round is completed. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button labeled Cancel - then the correct answers will be displayed - and try to complete the level again.

4. Antibody response

Image markupsImage markups - The level consists of 5 image markup questions and all of them are practiced in every game round. Each image question should be answered by selecting the correct marker in the image. Only one of the markers is correct. It is for you to find the right dot in the image. The student has 3 hearts (tries) for each question. The student has 3 hearts, giving them another chance at missed image markup questions during a game round. If the student answers a task incorrectly, the game round can be continued, but the round is marked as not completed. Questions have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has found all the correct picture markings, the game round is completed. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button labeled Cancel - then all the correct dots in the image will be displayed - and try to complete the level again.
